threw a teabagger party & 15 people showed up! Ha! I passed them
coming home this afternoon--5 were in front of the courthouse, and
a few more were across the street at the city admin building. I guess
they thought they'd look like a bigger crowd if they were spread out.

They didn't.

I counted the 5 & I'm being generous saying there was 10 in the other
group. I had to pass them twice, well, I didn't have to the
second time, but I didn't know they'd be there the first time. I could
have went down another road, but I wanted to pass them again because some
elderly woman shook a sign at me that said "honk fer sumpin" and I wanted
to pass by and not honk twice.

There was traffic--and I only heard maybe 3 cars honk. So sad. Except not.
I couldn't look at them as I drove past--because I would have started laughing.
Jeez, as least when the liberals protest wars & such people actually show
up and get arrested. These people aren't passionate--they are just old and
crabby and afeared of blacks and womens and gays and youth and change.

a puggle?

That is Flagler, the new kid on the block. He is a
sweetheart, so far, but he was licking his lips when he was
looking at my cat, Puddin. He has been by for snacks twice,
but I think they keep him in the house. His name isn't Flagler,
that is the name of the place where he got his rabies shot.
He is very hard to photograph, because he is all over the
place. He is only about 25lbs, and not much taller than
my shortie Jack. He would look scary, if he was bigger.

I always go to the "sale" section of any site first thing.

From Avon's clearance I bought:
nail polish in Textured Teal (not shown and it is not teal, it is a
very pretty navy)

and some mineral blush

mules from Sears--they are going back because they run small (IIRC, these
were $11.99)

pajama bottoms from Sears--I bought them in black & white pinstripes
I thought I could wear them out, because online they just look like lounge
pants, but in person they look like pajamas

mootsies tootsies mules from shoe mall ($17.99)

jeans from kmart ($3.99)

this dress is AWOL. UPS tracking says the box was empty and they'd notify the 'Mart

fair isle sweater. I think it was $1.99

sailor-style jeans--these are going back because the back pockets are
too widely spaced, and too small

these sandals are going back because they are too hard. I won't wear
uncomfortable shoes. I just won't. Never would. My feet are almost as wide as
they are long because I always went barefoot ($9.99)

I've been neglecting my wee blog--once I get busy, I'm busy. I'm not usually
busy. Last week I was busy because my aunt, the Fox "news" fan, was in the
hospital in the next town (she has emphysema). I had to pick her up last
Saturday & I asked the nurses at the desk if she was ready to go & they
were tickled to death she was leaving. I don't know what was going on--then
I got to wondering if she'd been mouthing off Fox talking points & maybe
they were Obama voters. I mean, I try to overlook her when she tells me
I'm going to Hell for voting for Obama, and whatever other BS Fox tells
her to share, but would I ignore it if a stranger said it?

She was fussing about the HCR passing, but she'd been doped-up on morphine
for a week. Surely she isn't the worst old person they've dealt with. She
looked like she'd escaped, rather than released. Anyhoo. She did have a great
looking doctor while she was in ICU. He was shorter than me, and I'm short
for a girl. I was hoping to see him again--but no such luck.

I've also added Volunteer to my repertoire. I haven't volunteered in awhile,
so I'm pretty excited. Today a volunteer from the museum next door came
over--he is an older man, and a Sarah Palin fan. He made me come over & visit
and he had his radio tuned to what sounded like Rush Limbaugh. Whatever it was,
the loudmouth radio idiot was saying something about how he knew this
black woman who was on welfare...I tuned out. They all know some black
woman on welfare. These types always know a black woman on welfare
and everything about Bill Clinton's dick.

I think the guy is going to be a pest--he was asking what days I'd be there. Blah.
He also told me I looked like a teenager. Yeah. He used to work for a newspaper in
the town where I went on vacation, and it isn't the Sun Times....Gawd, why is
there always a fly in my Metamucil?

Rosemary is the hardest working blogger in the biz--sophistication
is her trademark, and I love her blog because she entertains and informs.

I love Christine's groovy blog because she is everything I like to fancy myself
as: Fun. Sexy. Cool. But I'm actually the Jan to her Marsha.

My 7 Things:

1. As a preschooler, I had 2 imaginary friends. One was a tiny boy, and the
other was a girl my age who was always hiding things. The girl's name
was unusual, and my cousin later used it as his girlfriend's nickname.
She didn't know why he called her that, then my mom told her it was the
name of my imaginary friend, and she asked "does that mean he thinks
I'm crazy?" I don't know if she thought I was crazy for having an
imaginary friend, or what. :-/

2. I taught myself to drive when I was about 11 years old. The car was
my mom's LTD.

3. My English sucks. English was always my worst subject except when it
came to essays. The only time I made above a B was in college & I had
a professor who thought I was a great writer & overlooked my fragmented
sentences and misplaced commas. Yes, that professor was a man.

4. My worst flaw is holding grudges. I can hold them for a lifetime.
It doesn't bother me. Doesn't stress me out. I ask God to forgive
my tresspasses, and swear that I forgive those who tresspass against me,
but I don't.

5. I've never flown, or been on a boat, except for a paddle boat
when I was 7.

6. I have very tiny veins & if I need an IV they have to use a
baby's needle.

7. The first person I voted for was Bill Clinton.

is back--the baby possum, I mean. He has been gone for a long
time, and last night he was back. He was peeking up on the porch
checking for food, and he ran away when I went out to feed him.
Tonight he was back & was already on the porch when I took his
food out, and he did not run this time. His little face was
scratched up, and bloody with scabs. Poor thing--I guess a cat
got him. He is still quite small, I didn't know possums were
such slow growers...

Love this old travel steamer--it is like new ETA: Ooops--I just looked
it up--the steamer was recalled in 1985. Oh well

I also got some other things--a baby for my dog, some shower caps, makeup
brushes, jewelry box, cooker, etc.

The morning was rainy & gloomy & cold. I drove to a church sale in the next
town & stood shivering in the cold because they open the doors promptly at 8am.
NO EXCEPTIONS. I also forgot my coat. :-/

I went with my mother & my cousin & we were the first in line. We had to wait
about 30 minutes & those 30 minutes were a nightmare. The worst was the little
mouse. The mouse was running trying to get away from the old women who were
squealing like pigs. Then some woman chased it down and stomped it.
She kept screaming "it has nine lives!" because she couldn't get it killed.
I can't say I haven't put out traps and poison for the ones that come in the
house when it gets cold, but I wouldn't go after an animal and stomp it
when it was outside & trying to find a path to get away. She acted like it
was a bug, and seemed quite proud of herself, until she saw the looks of
horror on some of our faces, then she quickly got back in line & left the
mouse twitching. I couldn't look anymore, so I don't know how much longer
it lived. :-(

some stupid stuff--today I sniffed pepper spray. Yeah, I really
thought that was a good idea. I bought a canister & decided to
see if it had an odor. Just one tiny little sniff of the nozzle
and my nose was ON FIRE for a good ten minutes.

I bought it for our walks--just because this is a small town
doesn't mean a girl can't get murdered or raped. We go to a 1000
acre park, full of campers, deer in rut, living close enough
to East Tennessee that wandering bears have come this far...

since November, IIRC. I found a few things, not many. They
mostly have newish resin pieces from the Dollar Tree, and
clear glass vases like you get at the florist.

There were some yard sales!

I went to several sales--but the only one that had much was a church
rummage sale. I grabbed & grabbed & grabbed. Then I went to the others
and went back to the church to buy a $5 bookshelf I didn't buy the first
time, but it was gone. They also had a bonnet dryer--I didn't get it the
first time, and it was gone when I went back. It was $2.00. Oh well...

I did ok anyway--it was mostly smalls--but I got them. Spent a total of $30
all day.

I got a lot of jewelry:

It was all in .50 bags--I think I got it all for about $3.00:

I'll put most of it out at my upcoming yard sale. Probably

I am just giddy--I was like a junkie needing a fix. The blame can be laid
at my grandmother's door--she (and my mom) took me junk store shopping when
I was a girl. We went every week & then we'd go to antique stores to sell
what we'd found. That is how we financed our move to Tennessee.

I shouldn't have looked at this before bed. Now I feel terrible. And totally helpless.
So far the only thing I've run over is a snake--I was coming home from the park
after a hike & a snake was crossing the highway. I was in the right lane, and
so was he, and I thought I could pass it if I crossed to the outside lane, but
I didn't. I should had stayed in my own lane & slowed down. Not that he would
have made it across 4 lanes of traffic...

Awww, look at those baby possums! I'd love to have one as a pet, but
I have enough pets. I have one lone visitor--the middle-sized possum
is the only one of winter's three that still comes around.

I think it is a female, and she is very friendly. She is passionate
about cheese. Kraft singles are her favorites. Tonight she ate five slices.
She also ate an Arby's chicken sandwich, some pizza crust, cottage
cheese, and 9 Lives canned Tuna & Egg.

I've encouraged the possums to eat here ever since I saw one on the
porch snatch up a slug & eat it. I think anything that gets rid of
slugs is to be catered to.

Sometimes I think about moving--then I start thinking about all the
possums and stray cats, and occasional neighborhood dog that I care
for. What would I do with them? Would I trap the feral cat & the
possums and move them with me? Could I live in an apartment with a
dog, 3 cats, a feral cat, an old stray tom cat, and however many possums
happen to be hanging around? No.

You know, these animals go through about 200 cans of cat food each month.
200 cans of cat fod, 2-3 bags of dry, and 2 40lb boxes of litter. Yea, ewww.
That is a lot of food to poop.

orbs in photographs are ghosts--so I captured 2:

That is my pooch at my cousin's house. She was in their living
room & I was up on the balcony. The other photos from this series
do not have these in them.

I want to believe in ghosts--but I've never seen any. Once, when
my other dog was alive, he & this dog were in the living room
and I was in the bathroom, with the door open, and I heard
them playing & getting pretty rowdy. All of a sudden I heard
a big crash and thought they'd turned over the 5' tall shelf
that houses dozens of little knick knacks.

I ran out of the bathroom, expecting the worst, and found only one
lone figurine in the floor. The thing is, it was sitting on the back
of the shelf, and it was laying in the floor on the front. Nothing
else was out of place. The figurine had a small break--it was still
laying in the chips, so it didn't bounce after it broke. It was
as though it fell straight down. Like it had been picked up & dropped,
rather than shaken off a shelf.

It was my grandmother's old salt shaker that she kept even though it
was missing the pepper. I got my camera out & took a bunch of pictures
and almost all had these orbs in them. I've lived in old houses--and
even houses where people were murdered, but I've never seen anything
ghostly, or had anything overly odd happen, except for that salt shaker...

I live in a rural area & soooo many people drop their animals
rather than taking them to the pound. We have a couple rescues
here, but they don't have shelters, and they never take in
any pets--they tell you when adoption day is & tell you to go
sit in Wal-mart's parking lot.

I did manage to palm a puppy off on one of the shelters about
16 years ago. I was driving out to the country to the cemetery, and
passed a puppy sitting in the weeds beside the road. I got out to
get her and she was gone--she'd waddled around the front of the car
to get in the driver's side. I guess that is the door she was
dumped from, so she thought that was where she could get back in.

I remember she was a mopey little hound dog--and she had mange, and
was covered in ticks. I took her home & tried to clean her up--there
were so many ticks I'd pull them off & drop them in a jar & they'd
be crawling back out the top in swarms. At the time I had 3 dogs
and a cat, and had just lost one of my dogs to cancer, so I couldn't
keep the puppy. I figured I would have to, but I couldn't just keep her
locked in the bathroom until my other dogs died, because my one
big dog had never really been around other dogs or puppies and
I was afraid she'd hurt her.

The lady from the rescue came and got the puppy--luckily before
I got too attached. I hope she found a good home. She was cute
as she could be, in an ugly sort of way. I would still have her,
if I'd have kept her. My family keeps pets for life. If they
aren't re-homed within a couple weeks of them being around,
they are staying for good.

I remember when I was about 12, we had 3 dogs and a cat living in
the house, and 2 stray dogs and a puppy sleeping in boxes on the
back porch. The one dog (Rusty, a Golden Retriever) ended up living
with the boy next door, the other dog (Coco, a red dog that looked
like a Border Collie) followed the mailman off & never came back, and
the puppy (a black mixed-breed named Blackjack) vanished a day or so
later. My mother always said that the postman probably liked them,
and knew they were homeless, and he took them. I asked my mother
awhile back what happened to them, and asked her was she just saying
they'd wandered off when maybe she'd called animal control, or something,
and she said "you don't really think I'd do such a thing?!" I guess she
wouldn't. But...parents are pretty good at telling children lies about
pets that get squashed by cars and such...Oh, now I'm depressed thinking
about those dogs...

My mother hated this show--she always said the Ann Romano character
was only portrayed as being civil when she had a boyfriend. I think

an old bat at 34. I know I watched an episode of The Family Guy
awhile back and the joke was something about a 36 year old woman with
two(?) eggs going on a blind date, and I sulked.

I always remembered Bonnie Franklin as being frumpy & unattractive--but she
was very cute & her look has aged well--unlike the clothes & hairstyles MP & VB
sport.

My aunt, the Fox "News" fan, also hated this show--she said all they
did was scream and fight.

I woke up this morning thinking about someone I literally haven't
thought about in years--his name was Jeff & he was my cousin's classmate.
Jeff was a 7th grader when he accidentally shot himself in the neck with
his father's gun. My cousin's class had to attend his funeral, and I
remember my cousin telling about the patch they had covering the hole
in Jeff's throat. It was at the base of his neck, and we were told
he had dropped the gun and it went off.

I didn't see a dead person until I was 20, so death was very spooky
to me. A house on my aunt's street belonged to the family of a man
who'd killed his father--the father had been abusive for years & the
son finally had enough. They fought & the son attacked the father
with a baseball bat. The father ran out of the house and down the middle
of the street, and the son caught him and beat him to death with the bat.
I had to walk past the house going to school, and to my aunt's & I always
got quiet going by. It was very creepy passing the house where the people
had experienced a death. I looked up this man's date of death & it was
in November of 1981. He was 54. There was a sister, who was a few
grades younger than me, and all I remember about her is that she
was very quiet. The brother was a teenager, and IIRC, he did not
serve time, because of the circumstances. The brother still lived
with the family, but I never saw him.

I remember looking at Jeff's photos in old yearbooks & thinking that
there was something strange about his eyes & I always thought he looked
like a living ghost--as though he knew he wouldn't live very many years.
That he'd never make it to high school, that he'd never grow up. I looked
for his name on Find-A-Grave & his date of death is listed as Feb. 27, 1982.
Hmm, it is almost the 28th anniversary. Is that why he was on my mind, I wonder?

ETA: I snooped online & found out that Jeff was an only child, like me, and
he lived--and died--on my street--only one block away. His parents still live
there. The house was built the year he was born, but they didn't buy it until
1978.

always loved. It has that Colonial/Early American/New England ranch
look that is so homey. This house is almost 3500sq, and would cost
about $285-$430k to build in my area, but you can save a lot with a
little DIY--I did a "cost to build" estimate on another site & they
figured in that painting alone would cost $20,000. Huh? Painters
get paid $20,000 per house? Why don't I become a painter? They
have lady house painters, I guess...

3rd generation jewelry accumulator. The women in my family acquire
pieces, but we rarely wear them. I call it magpieitis.

In the late 50s/early 60s, my grandmother worked at Marshall's in
Chicago & one time a jewelry store returned some boxes they were
sent. Some of the boxes had display jewelry in it, and her boss
gave them to her after he called the store to see if they wanted
them, but they didn't. The jewelry they left behind was these
2 pretty rings--they are costume pieces, but they are too fragile
to wear, so she always kept them put away for safe keeping:

I heard a big BOOM! last night--sounded like something hit the house. I
got up & went outside & saw nothing at all. Not sure if it was ice cracking
on the roof, of if it was my neighbor's tree, which appears to have fallen

I usually go for a drive to get pictures of the snow--but this time it has
been too bad to go out. Some people are still without power. Some churches

Miller Studio cats way back last spring--and they only recently
found their place. I put them above the pantry door. They are
kitchy, but I think a little kitch is ok. They were new on their
cardboard, but the box was gone. They are from the estate sale
of an elderly woman who appeared to have kept every single thing
she was given. There is no other explanation for her sheer volume
of knick knacks...

Betty Marion White (born January 17, 1922) is an American actress comedian and former television host with a career spanning over sixty-five years. Her television roles include Sue Ann Nivens on The Mary Tyler Moore Show and Rose Nylund on The Golden Girls.

White has won six Emmy Awards and received 18 Emmy nominations over the course of her career, and was the first woman to ever receive an Emmy for game show hosting. She has also made regular appearances on the game shows Password and Match Game and played recurring roles on Mama's Family and Boston Legal. She is also recognized for her affiliation with animal charities such as "Actors and Others for Animals" and the Morris Animal Foundation.

Early life
White was born in Oak Park, Illinois, daughter of Horace L. White, a traveling salesman and electrical engineer, and his wife Tess Cachikis. She was raised in Los Angeles, California. White attended Horace Mann Middle School in Beverly Hills, California, and Beverly Hills High School, where she graduated in 1939.

Career
Before embarking on her television career, White found work modeling. She debuted on television in 1949, when she began appearing with Al Jarvis on his daily, live television variety show, Hollywood on Television on KLAC-TV in Los Angeles.[1] White began hosting the show in 1952 after Jarvis' departure.

In 1952, the same year she began hosting Hollywood on Television, White co-founded Bandy Productions with writer George Tibbles and Don Fedderson, a producer. The trio worked to create new shows using existing characters from sketches Hollywood on Television. White, Fedderson and Tibbles created the television comedy Life With Elizabeth, based on a Hollywood on Television sketch. White portrayed the title character on the sitcom from 1952 to 1955, which effectively boosted her career. The show, which she also co-produced, garnered White her first Emmy Award. Life With Elizabeth was nationally syndicated by the mid-1950s, allowing White to become one of the only women in television with full creative control in front of and behind the camera at the time.

In 1954, she briefly hosted and produced her own daily talk show entitled The Betty White Show on NBC (not to be confused with her 1970s sitcom of the same name). Following Life with Elizabeth, she appeared as Vicki Angel on the sitcom Date with the Angels from 1957 to 1958. The show later became another variety series before going off the air. White also performed in commercials seen on live television in Los Angeles, including a spirited rendition of the "Dr. Ross Dog Food" advertisement at KTLA during the 1950s.

She made her film debut as Kansas Senator Elizabeth Ames Adams in the 1962 drama, Advise and Consent.

Throughout the 1950s and 1960s, White appeared on a number of late night talkshows and daytime game shows, including Password. White made many appearances on the hit game show Password as a guest celebrity from 1961 through 1975. She married the show's host, Allen Ludden in 1963. She subsequently appeared on the show's three updated versions Password Plus , Super Password, and Million Dollar Password, having been on versions of the game with five different hosts (Ludden, Cullen, Kennedy, Convy, and Philbin). White made frequent game show appearances on What's My Line? (starting in 1955), To Tell the Truth (in 1961 and in 1990), I've Got a Secret (in 1972-73), Match Game (1973-1982) and Pyramid (starting in 1982). Both Password and Pyramid were created by White's friend, Bob Stewart. In 1983, she became the first woman to win a Daytime Emmy Award in the category of Outstanding Game Show Host, for the NBC entry Just Men!. Due to the amount of work she has done on them, she has been deemed the "First Lady of Game Shows".

In 1973, White appeared in a guest spot on The Mary Tyler Moore Show as The Happy Homemaker. As a result of her guest appearance, White landed her signature role as the sardonic, man-hungry Sue Ann Nivens, The Happy Homemaker, on The Mary Tyler Moore Show as a full time cast member. The running gag was that Sue Ann's hard-edged private personality was the complete opposite of how she presented herself on her show. "We need somebody sickeningly sweet, like Betty White," Moore herself suggested at a production meeting, with the result of casting White. White won two back-to-back Emmy Awards for her role in the hugely popular series.

Following that show's end in 1977, she was given her own sitcom on CBS, The Betty White Show, during the 1977-78 season, in which she co-starred with John Hillerman and (former Mary Tyler Moore co-star) Georgia Engel. It was canceled after one season. White began guest starring in a number of television movies and television miniseries, including With This Ring, The Place to Be, Before and After and The Gossip Columnist.

1980s – 2000s

White at the 1988 Emmy AwardsFrom 1983 through 1985, she had a recurring role playing Ellen Harper Jackson on the series Mama's Family for three years, along with future Golden Girls co-star Rue McClanahan. When Mama's Family was picked up in syndication after being canceled by NBC in 1985, White left the show (with the exception of one final appearance in the show's syndicated version in 1986).

In 1985, she scored a memorable role as the naive St. Olaf, Minnesota-native Rose Nylund on The Golden Girls. The series chronicled the lives of four widowed or divorced women in their "golden years" who shared a home in Miami. The Golden Girls, which also starred Beatrice Arthur, Estelle Getty, and Rue McClanahan, was immensely successful and ran from 1985 through 1992. White won one Emmy Award, for Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series, for the first season of The Golden Girls and was nominated every year of the show's run. When Beatrice Arthur left in 1992, White, McClanahan, and Getty reprised their roles Rose, Blanche, and Sophia in the spin-off The Golden Palace. The series was short-lived, lasting only one season. In addition, White reprised her Rose Nylund character in guest appearances on the NBC shows Empty Nest and Nurses, both of which were set in Miami.

White at the 1989 Emmy AwardsWhite was originally offered the role of Blanche in The Golden Girls, and Rue McClanahan was offered the role of Rose (the two characters being similar to roles they had played in Mary Tyler Moore and Maude respectively). Jay Sandrich, who was director of the pilot, suggested since they had played similar roles in the past, they should switch roles, Rue McClanahan later said in a documentary on the series. White was originally scared to play the role of Rose, feeling that she would not be able to play the role until the show's creator took her aside and told her not to play Rose as stupid but to play her as someone "terminally naive, a person who always believed the first explanation of something." As of January 2010, White is, alongside McClanahan, one of the last two surviving cast members following the deaths of Estelle Getty in July 2008 and Bea Arthur in April 2009.

After The Golden Palace was canceled, White guest-starred on a number of television programs including Ally McBeal, The Ellen Show, My Wife and Kids, That 70s Show, Everwood, Joey, and Malcolm in the Middle. She received Emmy Award nominations for her appearances on Suddenly Susan, Yes, Dear and The Practice. She won an Emmy in 1996 for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series, appearing as herself on a memorable episode of The John Larroquette Show. In that episode, titled "Here We Go Again", a spoof on Sunset Boulevard, a diva-like White convinces Larroquette to help write her memoirs. In one bit, Golden Girls co-stars McClanahan and Getty appear as themselves. Larroquette is forced to dress in drag as Beatrice Arthur, when all four appear in public as the "original" cast members. White comically envisions her Rose as the central character with the other cast members as mere supporting players.

The actress has lent her voice to several animated shows including The Simpsons, King of the Hill, The Wild Thornberrys, Family Guy and Father of the Pride. In 1999, she had a supporting role in the comedic horror film Lake Placid, as a seemingly sweet widow with a shockingly foul mouth later revealed to have raised the giant crocodile (which accidentally ate her husband).

In December 2006, White joined the soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful in the role of Ann Douglas, the long-lost mother of the show's matriarch Stephanie Forrester, who is played by Susan Flannery. In February 2007, White returned as Ann, who had an intent to move to Los Angeles to be near her daughters. The characters of Ann and Pamela Douglas (Alley Mills) disappeared after their March 27, 2007, appearance and were not mentioned again until October 19, 2007, when Ann appeared briefly. White would go on to appear in three more episodes following that, one on December 10, 2007; August 28, 2008; and October 28, 2008. She returned to the show on November 18, 2009 and in the November 19, 2009 episode her character revealed that she was dying of advanced pancreatic cancer. To date she has made 22 appearances as Ann Douglas. In the November 23, 2009 episode Ann passes away due to complications from her illness with both of her daughters next to her on the beach at Paradise Cove.

In the broadcast of the 2007 TV Land Awards, White starred in a parody of Ugly Betty, aptly titled Ugly Betty White, in which she played America Ferrera's title character, with Charo playing Betty's sister Hilda and Erik Estrada playing her father Ignacio.[6] Because of her performance as Ugly Betty White, the producers of Ugly Betty signed White to play herself as the victim of Wilhelmina Slater's temper as they both vie for a cab in the episode "Bananas for Betty", which aired December 6, 2007.

White had a recurring role in ABC's Boston Legal from 2005 to 2008 as the calculating, blackmailing gossip-monger Catherine Piper, a role she originally portrayed as a guest star on The Practice in 2004.

White appeared as a roaster on the Comedy Central Roast of William Shatner in 2006. On May 19, 2008, White appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show, taking part in the host's Mary Tyler Moore Show reunion special alongside every single surviving cast member of the series.

She was honored at the Sixth Annual TV Land Awards with the Pop Culture Award on June 8, 2008. She accepted it along with co-stars Bea Arthur and Rue McClanahan.

White returned to Password in its latest incarnation, Million Dollar Password with host Regis Philbin, on June 12, 2008 (episode #3), participating in the Million Dollar challenge at the end of the show. Her quick correct responses helped the contestant win $100,000. Betty returned to the show again on December 28, 2008 (episode #9), helping the contestants win $25,000 each. White has made a number of appearances in skits on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, playing the part of an Exxon representative, a girl scout, an accountant with a briefcase full of cocaine, a nurse who just got her medical license from El Salvador, a newspaper delivery girl, and a prison guard. She also appeared as herself with a shoe box full of receipts, explaining that she was doing her taxes. She also appeared as herself to promote Together: A Story of Shared Vision by her and Tom Sullivan. On July 18, 2008, she also appeared on the Tonight Show With Jay Leno in a skit entitled "Can You Make Betty White Flinch".

White recently guest starred as the "Witch lady" on an episode of My Name is Earl, and starred on Chelsea Handler's late night show Chelsea Lately. Some of her other most recent television credits in the 2000s include Stealing Christmas, Annie's Point and The Retrievers. Her film credits in the late 1990s and early 2000s included Hard Rain, Dennis the Menace Strikes Again and Bringing Down the House, in which she co-starred with Steve Martin and Queen Latifah.

White appeared in the 2009 motion picture, The Proposal with Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds. White provided the English-language voice of Yoshie in the anime film Ponyo,[1] which was released in Japan in 2008 and in the United States and Canada on August 14, 2009. She has signed on to co-star with Kristen Bell in the upcoming film, You Again.

Charity
White is a pet enthusiast and animal health advocate who works with a number of animal organizations, including the Los Angeles Zoo Commission, the Morris Animal Foundation, and Actors & Others for Animals. Her interest in animal rights and welfare began in the early 1970s, while she was both producing and hosting the syndicated series, The Pet Set, which spotlighted celebrities and their pets.

As of 2009, White is the president emeritus of the Morris Animal Foundation, where she has served as a trustee of the organization since 1971. She has been a member of the board of directors of the Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association since 1974. Additionally, White also served the zoo association as a Zoo Commissioner for eight years.

According to the Los Angeles Zoo & Botanical Garden's "ZooScape" Member Newsletter, Betty White hosted "History on Film" from 2000-2002. White donated nearly $100,000 to the Zoo in the month of April 2008 alone.

Personal life
In 1945, White married Dick Barker, an U.S. Air Force pilot. The marriage was short lived. In 1947, she married Lane Allen, a Hollywood agent. This marriage also ended in divorce two years later.

On June 14, 1963, White married television host and personality Allen Ludden, whom she had met on Password. He proposed to White at least twice before she accepted. The couple appeared together in an episode of The Odd Couple featuring Felix's and Oscar's appearance on Password. Ludden also appeared as a guest panelist on Match Game, with White sitting in the audience (she was prompted to rip apart one of Ludden's wrong answers on camera during an episode of Match Game '74); the two appeared together on the panel in 1975.

Already diagnosed with stomach cancer in early 1980, Ludden suffered a debilitating stroke by the fall of that year, which forced him to retire. Ludden's cancer eventually returned and he died on June 9, 1981, in Los Angeles. They had no children together. White has not remarried since Ludden's death.

Awards, honors and nominations
White has won six Emmy Awards, three American Comedy Awards (including a Lifetime Achievement Award in 1990), and two Viewers For Quality Television Awards. She was inducted into the Television Hall of Fame in 1995 and has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6747 Hollywood Boulevard alongside the star of late husband Allen Ludden.

White was the recipient of the Pacific Pioneers in Broadcasting Golden Ike Award and the Genii Award from the American Women in Radio and Television in 1976. The American Comedy Awards awarded her the award for Funniest Female in 1987 as well as the Lifetime Achievement Award in 1990. She was formally inducted into the Television Academy's Hall of Fame in 1995. In 2009, White received the Career Achievement Award from the Television Critics Association.

The American Veterinary Medical Association awarded White with its Humane Award in 1987 for her charitable work with animals. The City of Los Angeles further honored her for her philanthropic work with animals in 2006 with a bronze plaque near the Gorilla Exhibit at the Los Angeles Zoo. The City of Los Angeles named her "Ambassador to the Animals" at the dedication ceremony.

In September 2009, the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) announced plans to honor White with the Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award at the 16th Screen Actors Guild Awards on January 23, 2010. The awards ceremony will take place at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. She is a Kentucky Colonel.

Boredom drove me to prowl through my grandmother's old purse.
It was a gift from her brother, who brought it home to her when
he returned from WW2. The contents stop in the very early 1960s,
and most of the papers are just personal ones--old receipts, her
marriage certificate, my grandfather's "REJECTED" tag from the Army,
hospital bills, tax forms & the like. A few things:
